View Full Version : Hi from San Francisco - midi hardware setup questions a-plenty!

03-10-2017, 11:38 PM

My setup is running Reason 9 with 2xUSB to midi cables from laptop: 1st goes to DJX (midi in and out); 2nd goes to Volca bass (midi in to Volca only)...

I can run either the DJX, or the Volca bass in Reason by setting midi out in prefs to either of the midi cables - but not at the same time (! darn).

Aim is to transmit midi synch from Reason to both the DJX and Volca bass simultaneously.

Tried Loopmidi1 and midi ox, and loopbemidi1 - but am guessing I haven't set it up correctly. Any suggestions anyone?

I can run both the DJX and Volca bass from the midi ox time synch app so it seems simultaneous control is possible but can't seem to get Reason to play game.

Any help or pointers in the forum? More than welcome please!

Ahah! Interesting how sleeping on it can result in solution in hand....eh?

So I think I solved it this morning - must have been getting confused - so in case anyone else is ever looking for something similar....

In Reason - 2xUSB to midi: 1st USB (UX-16) to DJX (in and out) and 2nd (USB2OUT) to Volca bass (in only).

In Reason: in edit preferences set up both devices (DJX [UX-16] and Volca [USB2OUT]) according to the midi outs (my examples shown).
In edit synch set output to "loopmidiport" [assuming you've installed it].
In the Reason rack create 2x external midi instruments and route them to the midi out for the DJX (UX-16) and out for the Volca (USB2OUT).
In midi ox select the Inputs as "UX-16 for DJX" and "loopmidiport" - then set the outputs to "USB2OUT" and "UX-16".
Set the DJX and Volca to receive midi clock from Reason and hey presto - all synched up.

Anyone know if I can also synch up my Numark Mixtrak Pro III DJ surface so I can play tunes in synch with everything else? Sounds wild...
